WHY JOIN THE FOX VALLEY ASSOCIATED GENERAL CONTRACTORS?

If you are a general contractor, specialty contractor, supplier or a business associated with the construction industry, the benefits and advantages of being a member are numerous. The Association guides its members in the fields of labor relations, legislation, and public relations while providing networking opportunities through various social events. The Association strives to keep abreast of all the latest construction information and technologies and passes this on to its members.

HOW WOULD THE ASSOCIATION HELP ME REGARDING LEGISLATIVE ISSUES?

As a chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), we are kept abreast of the legislative issues affecting the construction industry on a national basis. AGC is a powerful voice representing some 33,000 firms comprised of general contractors, specialty contractors, suppliers, and professional firms that service the construction industry.

Locally, we are a member of the Illinois Construction Industry Committee (ICIC), which is an association of eleven contractor associations representing hundreds of construction companies and thousands of employees in Illinois. The numerous matters that affect the construction industry are identified in a timely fashion, and through a deliberative process, the position of the ICIC is defined and presented. ICIC functions as a clearinghouse of information, and represents its members in the legislative, executive, administrative and regulatory arenas in Springfield.

WHAT TYPE OF SOCIAL OR NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE AS A MEMBER OF FVAGC?

The Association provides many opportunities to network with other contractors and construction businesses on a casual basis. These social gatherings are avenues for meeting people and making new business contacts. Two golf outings are held each year, one in the summer and one in the fall. Our annual sports banquet, normally held in the fall, engages some of Chicago's most popular sports figures as speakers. Networking opportunities are also available at an annual dinner meeting held with the Northeast Illinois Chapter of AIA and the National Association of Women In Construction. A popular family event, held in the summertime is the Kane County Cougar Baseball game and picnic.

WHAT SERVICES DOES THE ASSOCIATION OFFER IN THE FIELD OF LABOR RELATIONS?

Each Regular and Associate member may designate and assign to the Association the right to act as its exclusive representative for the purpose of negotiating, executing, and administering collective bargaining agreements with assignment form supplied by the Association and acceptance of such assignment by the Board of Directors. The Association is a member of the Mid-America Regional Bargaining Association (MARBA), a construction organization established to collectively bargain with construction unions.
